ASSIGNMENT | IoT demo application for industrial systems
Within Demcon Advanced Mechatronics, industrial controllers are commonly employed in our business unit Industrial Systems & Vision. More and more, there is the desire of our customers to be able to monitor the behavior of their equipment remotely. In order to get acquainted with this subject, and find the possibilities and the limitations, we want to develop an IoT demo application using a Beckhoff industrial control system. This demo will also function as a IoT / Industry 4.0 demonstration platform towards potential customers.
The goal of the project is to define, design and realize an IoT data collection demo application using industrial control system components. The demo application will monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc) and store these in some cloud platform. A web-based front-end will be used to display the results.
During this assignment you will be working on:
- Defining the detailed specifications of the demo application
- Research on available IoT solutions for the Beckhoff TwinCAT industrial control system
- Selection of the required hardware
- Development of the software on the industrial platform
- Back-end / front-end software used to display the results
At the start of the internship, a concrete plan will be formulated to guarantee that the scope of the assignment is feasible within the available timeframe.
